The biotech company BIOK was founded in 1988. It was established by doctors of chemistry and former research fellows R. Petniunas, J. Steponavicius, R. Rasap and others. During the early years of Lithuanian independence, our country suffered from an economic embargo from the Soviet Union and underwent an era of total deficit. Imports were none to zero and local production was halting when these experienced scientists embarked on a risky skincare business.
In 1991, the company launched face cream Margarita, its first skincare product. Lithuanian creams with a shelf-life as short as six months quickly gained in popularity at the time. Soon after, BIOK extended its product range and began manufacturing body and hair care products. In 2006, the manufacturers of Lithuanian skincare products renewed their brand name to become BIOK Laboratorija.

Today, BIOK Laboratorija carries several skincare brands such as Rasa, Aras, Margarita and Thai. Consumers have a choice of nearly a hundred different products from face and body creams to cleansing milks and tonics, from shampoos to shower gels and deodorants.
