Company Introduction
Universal Instruments Manufacturing Company Pvt. Ltd. is ISO 9001-2000 certified manufacturer of SCR Controlled battery chargers for power plants, substations, hydel power plants, wind power, biomass based, co-generation, industrial & commercial bldgs, offshore oil platforms in type tested IP55 cabinet. We supply complete DC system upto 220 v nominal voltage with battery (smf or tubular lead acid or nicd) & dcdb. We have installations in India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Tanzania, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangla desh, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Zambia & Nepal.
We have supplied 160 v / 384 amps. Dual battery charger in IP55 construction (type tested) for installation on an offshore process oil platform.
We have supplied nearly 200 solar power controllers for offshore oil platforms during last 20 years.
Other products-DC / DC convertors, ah meters, DC regulated power supplies upto 1500 v & upto 150 amps. Switching convertors, small wind power generators upto 6 kw.
Standard warranty is 12 months from date of despatch for parts only. Full service backup is provided from our factory.
BATTERY CHARGER DESCRIPTION-During normal course of operation i. e. float mode, float charger feeds the load & float charges the battery. Float cum boost charger remains Off.
In boost mode, float cum boost charger boost charges the battery & float charger feeds load. Load / battery bus interlocking D. C. contactor gets de-energised thereby boost charger voltage is not reflected at load terminals.
During boost charging if power fails then continuity to load is maintained automatically by diodes connected to 80% cell tap till D. C contactor energises. On closing of the contact, full battery voltage is available at the load terminal.
In float mode, charger operates as a constant voltage controller & maintains output voltage to within + / -1% of rated max. voltage for
( a) + / -10% input A. C. voltage variation.
( b) 0-100% change in load variation or both occuring simultaneously.
AUTO / MANUAL boost / MANUAL float mode selector switch is provided.
In AUTO mode, charger AUTOMATICALLY switches over to boost mode if battery voltage drops below set voltage & reverts back to Float mode if battery voltage reaches other set voltage.
In MANUAL mode, charger can be MANUALLY operated in Float / Boost mode by a selector switch.
In case of overloading on load bus then remaining current is automatically delivered by battery.
In case of A. C. mains failure, battery supplies load automatically.
RECTIFICATION: -Incoming A. C. supply is connected thru HRC Fuses. It is then stepped down by transformer and fed to a full controlled rectifier circuit consisting of SCRs. Each SCR is protected by a Semiconductor fuse in series and a RC snubber across it.
